How To Get Support From Brands As A Makeup Artist
Makeup artists are the original influencers. We are part of big deal content creation and big deal moments in people's lives. Brand support isn’t just for influencers with massive followings. As a makeup artist, you are a walking, talking product testimonial and brands need you.
1. DM Brands (Yes, Really)
Start simple. Many brand relationships begin in the DMs.
Introduce yourself clearly:
Who you are
What you do
Where you’re based
Who you work with (clients, publications, events)
Keep it short, professional, and genuine. You’re not asking for free product. You’re opening a relationship. Brands want artists who already love and use their products.
Pro tip: Engage with their content before you DM. Likes, comments, and shares go a long way. (PS Tag Tag taggggg)
2. Use Your Pro Cards for Discounts
If you’re not using professional makeup artist discount programs, you’re leaving money on the table.
Most major brands offer:
Pro-only discounts
Early access to launches
Artist-only education or events
Apply for pro cards, keep them organized (many have rules and regulations), and mention them when reaching out to brands.
3. Share Your Tear Sheets & What’s Coming Up
Brands love visibility and future opportunities.
Send:
Tear sheets from past work
Links to published shoots or campaigns
A short list of upcoming projects (weddings, editorials, events, classes)
This helps brands see where and how their products will be featured. Artists who plan ahead are far more attractive to brands.
4. Host Events Brands Can Be Part Of
Events are one of the fastest ways to build real brand relationships.
Brands can:
Fill swag bags
Sponsor product kits
Provide samples or education materials
You get added value for your attendees, and brands get direct access to their ideal customer.
5. Create Simple Sponsorship or Brand Kits
You don’t need a fancy pitch deck but it's nice to have.
Include:
Who you are
Your audience
What you’re offering (placement, shoutouts, usage)
What the brand gets in return
When brands see structure, they take you seriously. Want marketing tips for your beauty business? Head over to www.mangomarketingco.com or join www.mangomarketingco.com/members
